Seasonal Anime: Fall 2016

The fall season of anime has ended and with that I'm obliged (not really) to talk about every series that I watched in this season. This took quite a while to make but without further delay, let's get started!

1. Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans S2
Gotta love Barbatos Lupus. I got the 1/100 Full Mechanics of it and I love it
Looking forward to building Gundam Vidar
No, this series hasn't ended yet and thank god it hasn't. As we all know, I'm a huge fan of Gundam and Iron-Blooded Orphans is one of the many gundam series I love. Arguably one of the best so far. The series sets of some time after the events from the first season and now Tekkadan has developed into a strong organization with their own branch on earth. Unfortunately (or even fortunately) peace can't last, things happened and war is in the horizon. The first half of the series focuses more with the relation between Tekkadan and McGillis (or chocoman as said by Mika) faction of Gjallarhorn, both of them teaming up to benefit out of each other and definitely not because of any sort of trust or mutual comradely. That's not going to happen, most definitely not. This somewhat unholy alliance is worsening the cracks in every front, the cracks between McGillis faction and Arianrhod, Tekkadan and the rest of Teiwaz. And the build up for the mobile armor which man, it wrecks everything, at least until Barbatos go full badass on it.
Also Gundam IBO has something that I don't see often in anime or in any movie so far, the main character, Mikazuki Augus, is both savage and kind at the same time. Do you know how rare it is for a main character to be perfectly ruthless and will get things done without beating around the bush and shouting like madman? Quite rare. Also Mika starts of the series having his right arm and eye paralyzed and moving further to all of his right body fully paralyzed if he's not connected to Barbatos. How rare for a series to paralyze their character? Hardly ever. As someone for love to see something new, this pleases me a lot. I highly recommend Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans to literally anyone, don't let your hatred and biased opinion towards mecha stops you from watching this series.
If it's not for that brain-dead pilot, this MS is quite nice to have

2. Girlish Number
Her personality is so bad yet so charming at the same time
Girlish number is a surprise hit for me this season. Sure, I did say that this series interest me since it revolves around voice actors but I didn't expect it to be this good. The story sets off with our main character, Karasuma Chitose being a new voice actor and couldn't land a big job. As the story progress she got herself into the role of a main character of an (shitty) anime, things are supposed to turn for the better for her but unfortunately that didn't happen all due to her horrible personality. I had one major complain about this series, it's that it didn't dive into the depths of being a seiyuu that much but well, in return we got great characterization, so it's all good in the end. By far my favourite character would be Momoka but the most interesting one is definitely Chitose. It's rare to see a main character having a personality like her. Self-conceited, selfish, prideful, overconfident, etc, her personality is so terrible to the point that she's actually so bad that she's good. A great slice of life to watch if you want to know more about voice actors. Or just wanted to watch something good.
Second best girl of the series, second only to Momoka

3. Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku
Punch~ Punch to death~
Brutal and gory. That sums up the series just fine. Like Madoka, this series took the mahou shoujo genre and flip it around to be dark and twisted. The story starts when a company released a mobile game to search for mahou shoujo candidates. Long story short, because of some bizzare reasons, they decided to cut the number of mahou shoujo by first making them compete by gathering "candies" which they can get by helping people and ended up in a bloody survival battle among the mahou shoujo. The story is interesting and the action is quite good. My only problem with the series is that they kill off way too many characters without fully fleshing them out which results in me not really caring for them when they actually die. Only 2 out of the many dead that I actually care but that'll thread into spoilers territory so I'll stop here.
Dark version of Alice is GoreWonderland

4. Brave Witches
502nd Joint Fighter, Brave Witches
The spin off from the Strike Witches series taking time somewhere between season 1 and season 2. Rather than the 501st Joint Fighter, Strike Witches, we have the 502nd Joint Fighter, Brave Witches. Strike Witches located in the UK (Britannia in the series) and later move on to Italy (Romagna in the series) but Brave Witches starts in the motherland, Russia (Orussia). The witches series tells the world in the alternate history where WWII didn't happen but this unknown being called Neuroi invades Europe and leave it in ruins. To combat these Neuroi, striker units are created and those who use it are called witches which is basically girls soaring through the skies using engines on their legs. Unlike the main heroine of Strike Witches, Miyafuji Yoshika who has an insane amount of magical energy and talent to back it up yet have absolutely terrible stamina for military standards, we have Karibuchi Hikari, albeit having near limitless stamina, her magical energy is simply pathetic. It barely enough to keep her in air while maintaining her shield. Talent-wise she's quite lacking as well but well at least she's doing her best at everything. Yes, this is an ecchi series (obviously by the severe lack of any pants or skirts. Even in the cold Russia winter) but the witches series has this charm where despite all of its flaws, i still come back to watch more. I can guarantee it's not the fanservice nor the story but something else which i have no idea what. Regardless, I do somewhat recommend this series to those who can tolerate fanservice if it's not disrupting the story. But at least watch the first season of Strike Witches first beforehand.
To be honest, I can't seem to care much about the characters in Brave Witches
but Hikari has a certain charm to her

5. Drifters
The main trio
From the left: Yoichi, Toyohisa, Nobunaga
Drifters is yet another (and by now obligatory) isekai series from this season but then again, I like isekai series so no problem there. This time rather than sending useless high schooler to a fantasy world, they sent historical figures who actually are competent in their field. Our main trio is Shimazu Toyohisa, Oda Nobunaga, and Yoichi. Google them, they're quite famous. The one who are dragged to this fantasy world are called Drifters and those who seeks to destroy it (also historical figures) are called the Ends. The story sets itself with our three main protagonist seeking to build their own kingdom and later fight the Ends. I find it somewhat ironic with the Ends, some of them are actually good guys in the real world but died tragically because of betrayal and now ended up being the bad guys (e.g. Joan of Arc, and Jesus believe it or not). This is a good watch for anyone who likes fantasy. There's a lot of gore but that shouldn't be a problem. Also Nobunaga is a badass.
Evil Jesus is an interesting idea and I quite like it.
Yes, I'm a Catholic and I have no problem with this

And there's one series on-hold, I will watch it sometime later but well, not now.
6. Shuumatsu no Izetta
100% WWII

I really like history and when I know this series' setting is an alternate WWII, I was really excited for it. It started out good and all but my main problem with it is its overall tone. The story is quite light and cheerful (until episode 4 that is) and that's not so WWII-ish. It should be a lot darker and grimer, war is never a good thing after all. I might finish it someday but for now it's on hold.
Flying tank is a thing. No it's not
