Yay another one. Like the first one, the games I list here might not be great but they're interesting in their own way. Also I tend not to care much for graphics so don't expect graphics to be my main focus. Let's begin!
1. Darkest Dungeon
Have you ever played a dungeon rpg game and thougt that it was too easy? I have something harder for you! Have you ever played a dungeon rpg game and thought how are the explorer not go insane from the surprise encounters and hideous environment? You, my friend, think way too much but good news for you, I have something for you. To solve those two problem you have, I bring you Darkest Dungeon. Or Darkest Soul said someone in steam. Darkest Dungeon gave you an eerie dungeon to explore with a set of team. But there's some twists to this, first, you need to bring supplies such as medicine, food, and tools, which are somewhat obvious. Second, if one of your party member dies, they die permanently. This is afterall a roguelike game. This mechanic forces you to think about your decisions rather than forcing your way through a dungeon at the cost of most of your team members. Third, you still have to pay attention to your party member's health point but there's something else, their sanity. They will snap and go insane if things went badly continuously and bring a hell of debuffs and bad things. Explore Darkest Dungeon, I assure you, you'll die, you'll restart but you'll still have fun.
I find this game quite eerie |
2. Game Dev Tycoon
I'm sure most people who like to play games will at one time in their life thought of being a game developer. Good news! This game allows you to be one. As the name suggests, you start as an upstart game developer that can only make small games, slowly expanding to a small company, and in the end be a large company that pumps out AAA games and MMOs. There's even a mod that allows this game to be multiplayer and it's surprisingly fun playing this with your friends and look at their weird games and ratings. Also being 4 years in the future or in the past from your friends due to 'great' synch is quite amusing in its own way. Take on the shoes of a game developer and develop your dream game.
P.S. This game also have one of the best anti-piracy system I've seen. Also their jab at EA in their April fools post is hilarious. Google them yourself

3. Europa Universalis IV
This is bound to be here. Those who knows me should be aware that I love EU4. In this grand strategy game, you've been given the task to lead a country that you choose to whatever direction you want. You can make a vast sprawling empire, world domination, a rich merchant republic, a dominant colonial power, whatever you desire. This game is somewhat a sandbox in this regard. The country you can choose isn't limited to Europe, you can choose whatever country you want from 1444-1821. The powerful France, the rising power Ottomans, any daimyo from Japan, the dying empire of Majapahit, or even a small tribe in Africa or America (waiting to be killed by Europeans most of the time). Don't let the bad UI and seemingly complex gameplay turn you off from this game, learning it isn't that hard and when you've learned it, this game will bring you hours upon hours of quality game time. And add mods on top of that to double or even triple the hour count.
Beware of Prussia Space Marines You simply can't beat them normally |
4. This War of Mine
This War of Mine is a game, not about fighting in a war but more of being a civilian in a city ravaged by war. The goal is simple, survive. You're not a hero that defeat the enemy, you're not a hero that save people from misery, you're just a simple civilian that's trying to survive this war, that's all. Looting, base building, team management, everything needs to be done just to survive the harsh condition and the ever looming winter. At times I find myself feeling bad for those whose house I looted after I heard their conversation (that ain't stopping me from looting every single thing there though), and once I find myself making a decision whether to kill the owner of the house that found me looting their house or simply run away. Me being me, I opted to kill but that doesn't come without any repercussions, the character I controlled to kill them got sever mental strain from that. Just try it, it's dark, gloomy, and at times depressing, but it's different from your usual war game where you're a hero. Now try stepping in as a simple civilian in that situation.

5. Windward
Windward is a sandbox game where you take a role of a captain of a ship. Since this is a sandbox game, how you play is up to you. You first join into the game in a procedural generated world and choose one of the four faction. Afterwards, it's up to you on how to play. You can be a merchant, buying goods at a city that has an abundance of it and selling it to a city in need of that specific thing and be profit the hell out of it. Or you can take a quest to ferry people from one city to another. Or even fight pirates and other factions. If you were to ask me which is more fun, I'd say do all of them, I did it and it's a lot of fun. The action is quite face-paced and exciting, crushing pirates and other factions or getting crushed by them. I've done both. You can even play this with your friends, in the same faction or different. Fighting them or working together with them. I've done both and they're equally fun. Although curb-stomping your friend because you choose a faction focusing in firepower while theirs focused on trading is quite hilarious. But this game doesn't go without any flaw, although the action is amazingly fun and exciting, the trading and quest part will get stale eventually. The speed of your ship is freaking slow albeit it being realistic since well, it's a sail ship. But regardless, this is a game to play and relax and once in a while do some fun battles.
Fighting in a big fight like this is without a doubt fun |
